Malik K. Murray grew up in Philadelphia to face the horrors of seeing his childhood friends murdered during summer break. This experience took its toll on his mental health and heart as a teenager. But at the same time, motivated him to lead a life of impact in the lives of many people. Growing up in Philly, Malik was exposed to a lot of successful entrepreneurs, visual artists, musicians, and writers. Having entrepreneurial and artistic parents who constantly encourage him to discover his life's creative voice. Malik was destined to pursue a career centered around the arts. He focused on writing, sports, and studying martial arts to avoid getting in trouble. Tae Kwon Doe gave him the focus, discipline, and inner peace that he needed to stay out of trouble while transitioning into manhood.
Leaving Philadelphia for a career in Los Angeles in 2006, Malik landed an internship at a well-known production company located on the Paramount Studios lot. The internship led him to getting a mailroom job at the top talent agency in the world. Immediately afterwards he began working directly with the industry’s billion-dollar box office producers and directors, academy award winning actors, and many New York Times bestselling authors. Making a name for himself among the young movers and shakers in the entertainment industry, he discovered that God had a different purpose for his life. Malik noticed a deep sadness and emptiness inside of his clients and colleagues lives that they covered up so very well, publicly.
He provides them with emotional support and much needed daily encouragement. As well positively impacting their lives through spiritual discernment, inspirational words, and timely uplift. From there, he became a motivator, mentor, and even a pastor to his clients and colleagues. The relationship with his clients, which was initially strictly professional, synergistically evolved into something more personal and more therapeutic. In short, Malik was not just a manager to his client; he was their pastor, mentor, coach, motivator, and spiritual leader. He identified with the many of the challenges his clients faced having experienced similar obstacles. Problems like self-doubt, self-sabotage, rejection, fear, and low self-worth were at the top of the list. Providing clients with a blueprint of the actionable steps to help them overcome and find personal fulfillment right where they are in life. This calling has been proven to work for his clients and himself.
Malik encourages millennials to remain courageous as they step into this new territory of fatherhood. He believes consistency and showing up is a crucial factor in fatherhood. His childhood experience with his father helps him build a stronger foundation for his children; he described his father as model of strength, hardworking, disciplined, athletic, gentle, compassionate, and kind. Many of the qualities that he hopes to possess as he continues to embark on the journey of fatherhood. He said, his father was like the neighborhood dad for the many fatherless young men in Philly. It is our duty to uplift, inspire, encourage, and provide solid examples for our children and community.
